Bed & Mattress Guide
When it comes to investing in a bed it’s important to take into consideration several factors. A bed is a big investment designed to last, so choosing the right one can be a little tricky. Firstly, which bedroom is the bed for and who will be sleeping in it. If it’s for the main bedroom, then you need to check the space available for either a double bed or king size bed and how that will fit with other bedroom furniture. Then you need to consider the type of mattress you need. Always take measurements in the space and double check them before you purchase, checking not just the mattress size but the overall size of the bed frame.
Which Size Bed Should I Choose?
The size of the bed really depends on the size of the room. If you have a large spacious bedroom, then you could splash out on a king size bed or super king size bed if you want that luxury hotel bed feeling. Take into consideration the bedroom storage that is needed, that will determine what size bed you need. Remember to allow space to walk around the bed as well as to be able to open wardrobe doors fully for access.
Single
Single beds are great for smaller bedrooms, they are ideal for children and could also make a handy guest bed if you have a small box room. A single bed in a children’s room allows more floor space for playing with toys and games. A single bedframe is designed to fit a standard single mattress of 90cm x 190cm.
Double
Double beds are designed to sleep two people comfortably and fit in most double size bedrooms in homes. The size of a standard double mattress is 135cm x 190cm, which will fit a double bed frame. A small double bed also known as queen size is slightly larger than a single but smaller than a double. Ideal for a single person who prefers a little more space. The mattress size for a small double measures 120cm x 190cm.
King Size & Super King Size
Designed for much larger bedrooms a king size bed is longer and wider than a double and is ideal for those who enjoy plenty of space. A king size bed frame will fit a 150cm x 200cm mattress. For those requiring a little more luxury and have a very spacious bedroom, a super king size bed is the same length as a king but wider designed to fit a mattress that measures 180cm x 200cm. If you do choose a king or super king, then remember to allow space for the bedframe which may be larger than the mattress itself.
Choosing a Bed Frame
Deciding on a bed frame really is a matter of personal taste, think of the colour scheme in your bedroom and how you want your bedroom to look. For example, a light and airy bedroom with a neutral colour scheme offers a calming feel. Opt for a neutral bed like the Finola featuring a curved headboard in ivory and style it with plenty of cushions and throws in tonal hues to bring texture to the room.
If you prefer a little more colour then opt for a velvet bed like the Alice in ink blue for a luxurious and contemporary look. Consider the storage you will need in your bedroom, and discover our range of ottoman beds offering ample storage without compromising on floor space.
Alternatively, for a pared-back design opt for a simple platform bed or metal bed frame for a modern minimalist look.
