Biophilic design trend

The Biophilic Design Trend

What is biophilic design and how can we incorporate this trend into our homes? Biophilic design is the concept of bringing the outside in and connecting with nature indoors which is a key interior trend for AW24. Simply being in nature has many benefits for physical and mental health. Naturally as the weather turns colder and the days become shorter, we all spend more time indoors, therefore it is important to keep that connection with nature which can be achieved through our interior choices.

Bringing the Outside In

Introducing house plants is an effortless way to include nature indoors visually. Use planters to display larger plants such as fiddle leaf fig trees or rubber plants. Alternatively, display a few little pots on the kitchen windowsill or a hanging plant or two. Include green accessories in your décor like our Holbeck fern green cushion cover, green candle holders or hang botanical prints for subtle nods to nature.

Positioning furniture by windows where you can look outside automatically connects you to nature. Natural light is a great mood booster, so make the most of large windows or consider sky lights if you are renovating your home to help let in as much light as possible.

Natural Materials

Creating a home with exposed natural materials will not only look beautiful but natural materials will stand the test of time. Our solid acacia wood Bosco dining table and bench set shows off the natural grain of the wood and the slightly uneven edge gives a stylish rustic look.

Decorate with Calming Tones & Textures

Neutral colours or warming earthy tones on walls offer a soothing effect and complement plants beautifully to help create your own relaxing sanctuary. Textured pieces in neutral hues add interest and warmth to your home. The elegant Ripley vase features a concrete effect finish, the Chattendon lamp is finished in ecru boucle and the Nerja cotton throw blanket is perfect for elevating your bed or sofa.

Tech Free Zone

Part of the benefit of biophilic design is creating a retreat to relax and switch off from modern day demands of 24-hour technology. Having a room or space in your home that is free of tech can help you process the day, calm the mind of distractions, and prepare us for a night of excellent quality sleep which is vital for our health and wellbeing.
